Here the drive to present the cream of the artistic crop – both on local and international level – is being satisfied. Instalments of Clash Series transform eye-catching locations into the stars on the margins as they highlight the artworks in question, creating new spaces within familiar places. EMG Factory

AUGUST 17–21
EEMSKANAAL NOORDZIJDE 48

Craving fresh new views on the world and the city? Let Clash hook you up, with the help of a unique location and a complementary combination of local and national artistic merit. During the first week of Noorderzon the imposing EMG factory functions as a one-off hotbed. Where works of some of the country’s foremost visual artists like Jeisson Drenth and Harmen Meinsma share ground with a Kunstpunt-curated program and some of Groningen’s most exciting youngsters.

August 17th till 21st poses the rare opportunity to visit the abandoned grain warehouse with a view of the Eemskanaal. Normally closed to the public, Clash uses this collaborative event to show the wonders of EMG’s space and the creative pearls of the city. In support of Groningen’s talented young scene, various Minerva alumni get the opportunity to present their work to the public. Immerse yourself in installations, ponder at smart designs and be pleasantly confronted with performance. That is Clash Series at Noorderzon.

Featured artists: Harmen Meinsma, Rita Hoofwijk, Jeisson Drenth, Sanne Boekel, Jimi Kleinbruinink, Anna-Lucia Rijff (in collaboration with Kunstspot and Platform Gras), Anna Fleuri Wolters, Samantha Pellarini, Cindy van der Kaap, Hussein Fakih, Daniel Janse, Martina dal Brollo, Alan Ahued Naime, Farida Sultan, Mirjam Kema.

EDWIN VAN DER HEIDE

ELEVATED PROJECTION

AUGUST 19–21
VRIJDAG, SINT JANSSTRAAT 7

Do we need space exploration if you can let Edwin van der Heide create you a dream-world? Escape your familiar surroundings and immerse yourself in ‘Elevated Projection’, one of the largest and most impressive installations of the festival. True to Clash’s aim to merge music and art, this collaboration with Noorderzon explores that idea through an awe-inducing amalgamation of light art and soundscapes.

From august 19th till 21st Van der Heide’s meticulously programmed lasers and carefully crafted soundtrack transform the majestic main hall of the VRIJDAG theatre into an otherworldly experience. His installation manages to augment a static room by highlighting textures; by creating new structures. To the point where solid architectural features appear fluid under the influence of sonic and visual estrangement. Time to experience space with the most open of minds. Time to visit Clash Series at Noorderzon.

AGGREGAT

LIVE SHOW

AUGUST 20 | 19:00 | 21:30
APOLLO STAGE, NOORDERPLANTSOEN

Fire it up. Aggregat is the smoothly running, high-powered, three-stroke machine producing electro in some of its most surprising forms. Under the hood: a cello, a drum kit, a collection of vintage synthesizers and a bunch of effects. Inspired by minimalism and krautrock with a healthy helping of classical avant-garde, this German trio has been at it since 2015. Last year they released their first album, fittingly entitled ‘1’. The stages they play have been steadily increasing in size and now they will be taking on the Noorderplantsoen. In collaboration with Noorderzon we present two sets – see the starting times above. Expect a show featuring layered electronic music that produces a continuous drive from start till end.
