Leave it to Clash to turn Winterwelvaart into an electronic affair. On Saturday the 18th and Sunday 19th of december we take over the Aa church and the Willem Jacob boat with various local DJs, live acts and visual art. Peep the program on the right and reserve your FREE spot at one of the time slots. An adventurous twist to one of Groningen’s traditional winter festivities.
Together with the magnificent theatre festival Jonge Harten, Clash celebrates the return to the dance floor. During the opening party of this year’s edition we combine adventurous dance music with multiple other art forms. Electronic music, spoken word, poetry and visual art meet at the most exciting theatre festival of the year.
Jonge Harten believes that theatre connects people and that it opens up discussions. No matter how big or small the topics are. That is what drives the organization to do this. A team of young people – which includes theatre makers as well as you, the audience – create this inspiring, extensive festival experience.
September 11th is your unique chance to visit Groningen’s art spaces when the moon is out. We’re taking the immense Forum and the intriguing Former Men’s Sauna – part of the Scheepvaartmuseum – as our stages for a night filled with mesmerising artworks and well-versed DJs.
Entry for Heleen Blanken’s HABITAT is free all night. Tickets for Former Men’s Sauna are €2,50 and can be bought via the Museumnacht ticket page. Displayed booking times are indications of your arrival, you can roam around all night. The specific ticket button on the right sends you in the right direction.

CLASH SERIES 1.1 NOORDERZON
Clash takes over three iconic locations in collaboration with Noorderzon. Between August 17th and 21st monumental installations, innovative designs, performance and electronic trio Aggregat are given the spotlight at the former EMG factory, the Noorderplantsoen and VRIJDAG.
Clash Series is a set of collaborative events, determined to fuse the most fascinating forms of art. Every edition Clash enters into a unique exchange of ideas with one of many respected partners from the worlds of theatre, music, visual art, cinema and science.
Here the drive to present the cream of the artistic crop – both on local and international level – is being satisfied. Instalments of Clash Series transform eye-catching locations into the stars on the margins as they highlight the artworks in question, creating new spaces within familiar places. Where form is fluid and everything serves to channel the joint efforts of singular creative minds.

Do we need space exploration if you can let Edwin van der Heide create you a dream-world? Escape your familiar surroundings and immerse yourself in ‘Elevated Projection’, one of the largest and most impressive installations of the festival. True to Clash’s aim to merge music and art, this collaboration with Noorderzon explores that idea through an awe-inducing amalgamation of light art and soundscapes.
From august 19th till 21st Van der Heide’s meticulously programmed lasers and carefully crafted soundtrack transform the majestic main hall of the VRIJDAG theatre into an otherworldly experience. His installation manages to augment a static room by highlighting textures; by creating new structures. To the point where solid architectural features appear fluid under the influence of sonic and visual estrangement. Time to experience space with the most open of minds. Time to visit Clash Series at Noorderzon.
Poetic! This is our shapeshifting program for an electrifying Jonge Harten opening party. Full of exhilarating dance music and gifted spoken word, culminating in an unprecedented meet-in-the-middle. This dance floor gets the blood as well as the thoughts going.

SPOKEN WORD in collaboration with Noordwoord Talent
One of Groningen’s very special hidden spots is all Clash’s for the night. Located behind – and part of – the Scheepvaartmuseum the intimate, multiple-story former men’s sauna has proven itself to be the pitch-perfect framework for art and music. Once a pioneering meeting place for male same sex lovers, the tiny mazelike structure will be host to pioneering art and the cream of the DJ crop. The thrilling work of Minerva graduates, fresh outlooks on electronic music anno 2021; this is a steamy, essential part of Groninger Museumnacht 2021.
Confirmed artists: Bart Bruinsma, Ragnheiður Erla Björnsdóttir, Blauwe Uur, Daniel Alsina Santos, Helena Baumane, Irian Schuur, Jhonie van Boeijen, Paola Quiñonez, Sebastiaan Baar.
The environmental crisis and the destruction of habitats force us to imagine a future in which nature can be remembered in digital form. Natural history museums aim to preserve nature physically by fixing it in time and space. How might the archival of nature evolve in a digital context? Could digitalisation bring us even closer to nature?
In Heleen Blanken’s data-driven projection HABITAT – originally meant to premiere at Clash Festival 2019 – 3D scans of organic artefacts from Leiden’s Naturalis Biodiversity Center are transformed into a game-like, meditative environment.
You are invited to reconnect with the wonder of nature as you navigate through a series of ever-evolving digital worlds, each accompanied by its own soundscape. Human’s impact is not always immediately visible. Walk among the motion-sensor sculptures to see how your presence influences the work and generate your own unique audio-visual experience.
Entry for this work is free all night long. You’re free to walk in whenever you please; in case we reach maximum capacity we will ask you to wait a couple of minutes until the next cycle starts.

LIVE SHOW
AUGUST 20 | 19:00 | 21:30
APOLLO STAGE, NOORDERPLANTSOEN
Fire it up. Aggregat is the smoothly running, high-powered, three-stroke machine producing electro in some of its most surprising forms. Under the hood: a cello, a drum kit, a collection of vintage synthesizers and a bunch of effects. Inspired by minimalism and krautrock with a healthy helping of classical avant-garde, this German trio has been at it since 2015. Last year they released their first album, fittingly entitled ‘1’. The stages they play have been steadily increasing in size and now they will be taking on the Noorderplantsoen. In collaboration with Noorderzon we present two sets – see the starting times above. Expect a show featuring layered electronic music that produces a continuous drive from start till end.
